I spent much of my early life in the Philadelphia Art Museum where my mother was a docent for 25 years. She introduced me to rooms of paintings, sculpture, fine furniture, and silver and glass creations. My favorite rooms housed the Impressionist paintings, featuring the play of light and color on water, faces, and landscapes. In my own paintings, I use the soul sustenance of deep, rich color; light and contrast; and relatable images you might miss in everyday life but that stand out on canvas.

The magic of painting is starting with an idea-even a feeling- for what you hope to capture with a brush and then allowing an internal source to play out your personal interpretation of that image. The process helps you see what you are really thinking about the piece .

Philly artist Sara Steele has said that colors are like vitamins. I think of them as expressions of joy as well. Steele and artists Candice Ronesi, Michael McTavish, and Jill Charuk are painters whose work I admire and from whom I try to learn.
